2026 Brisbane Logan Interschool Chess Tournament – Outstanding Results for Queensland Chess School Students
Our students achieved remarkable success at the 2026 Brisbane Logan Interschool Chess Tournament, winning 47 medals and qualifying for the Queensland State Chess Finals.
Our young chess players delivered an incredible performance at yesterday's Brisbane Logan Interschool Chess Tournament, continuing our strong run of success across Brisbane's southern region.
Across all divisions, our students brought home 22 Gold, 16 Silver and 9 Bronze medals (47 medals total), plus 28 Merit Ribbons.
Competing on behalf of their schools, our players secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Premier division, alongside every Best Board award. The Premier team players have now qualified to represent the Logan region at the Queensland State Finals, scheduled for the second week of Term 4 in October.
Warrigal Road State School Chess Program Stands Out
A huge congratulations to the Warrigal Road State School (WRSS) chess program for its outstanding tournament performance. Fifteen team awards were available at this competition, and WRSS earned six team honours, with a final tally of 14 Gold, 12 Silver and 1 Bronze medals. The presentation ceremony drew widespread admiration from spectators for WRSS's exceptional results.
This outstanding achievement comes after four years of dedicated school-based chess coaching. This milestone would not have been possible without consistent hard work from our students, ongoing trust and support from families and partner schools. It is wonderful recognition for our chess club and coaching team.
Growth, Courage and Life Lessons Beyond the Chessboard
Every student gained valuable competitive chess experience and performed brilliantly throughout the tournament. The competition tested skills learned in weekly chess lessons: players planned ahead, calculated deeply, navigated tricky positions set by opponents, made independent decisions, and took ownership of their results on the chessboard. These skills build resilience and confidence that extend far beyond chess.
We are especially delighted to watch many Year 1 and Year 2 young talents compete in the top Premier division. These rising stars show immense promise, and the future of junior chess in Queensland looks bright.
