A full recap of Queens’ Games 2026, Queensland’s premier all-girls junior chess tournament, with 54 players, crystal trophies and a GM Hou Yifan giveaway.
From a Pawn to Queen
Spring arrived in Brisbane on September 6, 2026, yet the temperature soared sharply to 32°C, bringing an immediate summer vibe. On this vibrant day, the Queens' Games All-Girls Junior Chess Tournament kicked off brilliantly, gathering elite female chess talents from across Queensland.
The tournament attracted 54 junior girl players, including 2 WCM titled players, 2 conditional WCMs and totally 11 players with QJ ratings above 1,000. For Brisbane's junior female chess community, this was an extremely rare high-level all-girls competition, allowing participants to compete and learn alongside top local junior talents.
The entire event was professionally officiated by International Arbiter IA David, ensuring fair, standard and smooth competition procedures throughout the day.
Players ranged widely in age and experience — from 4.5-year-old kindergarten beginners to highly experienced representatives who have competed for Australia at the World Youth Chess Championships.

Every young competitor demonstrated extraordinary sportsmanship. All rounds proceeded calmly and orderly. Each girl stayed focused, polite, confident and composed under tournament pressure.
Starting from Round 2, the tournament entered an intense stage. Top Open division players faced off against one another, creating highly competitive and challenging games. Chess is a precise mind sport; a single careless move can change the entire result.
Many endgame situations were decided under extreme time pressure, with less than 30 seconds remaining on the clock. Players fought bravely to break balanced positions, bringing high-level risk-taking and brilliant strategic choices to every board.
A pawn on the chessboard requires long, steady advancement to finally promote into a powerful Queen. Similarly, our beginner-level young players are growing step by step through real tournament experience.
Chess improvement relies on continuous accumulation and gradual qualitative growth. This Queens' Games competition provided invaluable practical tournament experience for every participating girl.
Historic & Clean Competition Results
The 2026 Queens' Games produced one of the cleanest and most outstanding result lists in the event's history.
Clarissa performed spectacularly throughout the tournament. Emerging as a strong dark horse, she secured Board 1 starting from Round 4 and maintained her perfect momentum. She finally claimed the outright championship with 6 wins and 1 draw in 7 rounds — the first sole, untied champion in Queens' Games history.
Two outstanding WCM players tied for second and third place, sharing the runner-up prize pool. All divisional champions achieved outright clean wins, making this year's tournament the most decisive and cleanest results in our all-girls competition records.

This year's tournament fully upgraded all trophies and medals to premium crystal custom-designed awards. The exquisite crystal trophies and medals received extremely positive feedback from both players and parents.
Every girl who completed all seven rounds deserves immense praise. From absolute beginners to high-rated titled players, every participant showed incredible perseverance and sportsmanship.
Every young chess girl holds unlimited potential to grow strong, strategic, and brilliant — just like a promoted Queen on the board.
We encourage all participants to keep passionate about chess, learn from our two senior WCM players who have trained consistently at our club for 9 years, and continue improving in future competitions.
Special Highlight: GM Hou Yifan Signed Chessboard Giveaway
Before the start of Round 7, we held an exciting lucky draw activity. Top-ranked players after six rounds took turns spinning the prize wheel.
Ultimately, Isabella Lin from the Open Division won the grand prize — a precious chess board autographed by the legendary Women's World Chess Champion GM Hou Yifan, bringing a wonderful and memorable highlight to the entire tournament.
